I Stood Upon A Star (free) 01:36 video
I Stood Upon A Star by Sara Teasdale I stretched my mind until I stood Out in space, upon a star; I looked, and saw the flying earth Where seven planets are Delicately interweaving Like fireflies on a moist June night, The planetoids among the planets Played for their own delight I watched earth putting off her winter And slipping into green I saw the dark side of the moon No man has ever seen (change to no one) Like shining wheels in an open watch They all revolved with soundless motion; Each sparkled like a rain wet flower, Bearing petals, plain and ocean

Bartar 01:39
Barter by Sara Teasdale Life has loveliness to sell, All beautiful and splendid things, Blue waves whitened on a cliff, Soaring fire that sways and sings, And children's faces looking up, Holding wonder like a cup. Life has loveliness to sell, Music like the curve of gold, Scent of pine trees in the rain, Eyes that love you, arms that hold, And for your spirit's still delight, Holy thoughts that star the night. Spend all you have for loveliness, Buy it and never count the cost; For one white singing hour of peace Count many a year of strife well lost, And for a breath of ecstasy Give all you have been, or could be.

Jewels 02:46 video
Jewels by Sara Teasdale If I should see your eyes again, I know how far their look would go -- Back to a morning in the park With sapphire shadows on the snow. Or back to oak trees in the spring When you unloosed my hair and kissed The head that lay against your knees In the leaf shadow's amethyst. And still another shining place We would remember -- how the dun Wild mountain held us on its crest One diamond morning white with sun. But I will turn my eyes from you As women turn to put away The jewels they have worn at night And cannot wear in sober day.

Spring Rain by Sara Teasdale I thought I had forgotten, But it all came back again Tonight with the first spring thunder In a rush of rain. I remembered a darkened doorway Where we stood while the storm swept by, Thunder gripping the earth And lightning scrawled on the sky. The passing motor busses swayed, For the street was a river of rain, Lashed into little golden waves In the lamp light's stain. With the wild spring rain and thunder My heart was wild and gay; Your eyes said more to me that night Than your lips would ever say. . . . I thought I had forgotten, But it all came back again To-night with the first spring thunder In a rush of rain.

"I Am Not Yours" by Sara Teasdale I am not yours, not lost in you, Not lost, although I long to be Lost as a candle lit at noon, Lost as a snowflake in the sea. You love me, and I find you still A spirit beautiful and bright, Yet I am I, who long to be Lost as a light is lost in light. Oh plunge me deep in love--put out My senses, leave me deaf and blind, Swept by the tempest of your love, A taper in a rushing wind.

Spring Night 03:37
Spring Night by Sara Teasdale The park is filled with night and fog, The veils are drawn about the world, The drowsy lights along the paths Are dim and pearled. Gold and gleaming the empty streets, gold and gleaming the misty lake, The mirrored lights like sunken swords, Glimmer and shake. Oh, is it not enough to be Here with this beauty over me? My throat should ache with praise, and I Should kneel in joy beneath the sky. O, Beauty are you not enough? Why am I crying after love, With youth, a singing voice and eyes To take earth's wonder with surprise? Why have I put off my pride, Why am I unsatisfied,-- I for whom the pensive night Binds her cloudy hair with light,-- I, for whom all beauty burns Like incense in a million urns? O, Beauty, are you not enough? Why am I crying after love?

Stars 01:28 video
Stars by Sara Teasdale Alone in the night On a dark hill With pines around me Spicy and still, And a heaven full of stars Over my head, White and topaz And misty red; Myriads with beating Hearts of fire That aeons Cannot vex or tire; Up the dome of heaven Like a great hill, I watch them marching Stately and still, And I know that I Am honored to be Witness Of so much majesty.

Christmas Carol (free) 01:18 video
Christmas Carol by Sara Teasdale The kings they came from out the south, All dressed in ermine fine; They bore Him gold and chrysoprase, And gifts of precious wine. The shepherds came from out the north, Their coats were brown and old; They brought Him little new-born lambs— They had not any gold. The wise men came from out the east, And they were wrapped in white; The star that led them all the way Did glorify the night. The angels came from heaven high, And they were clad with wings; And lo, they brought a joyful song The host of heaven sings. The kings they knocked upon the door, The wise men entered in, The shepherds followed after them To hear the song begin. The angels sang through all the night Until the rising sun, But little Jesus fell asleep Before the song was done.

Old Tunes 03:33
Old Tunes by Sara Teasdale As the waves of perfume, heliotrope, rose, Float in the garden when no wind blows, Come to us, go from us, whence no one knows; So the old tunes float in my mind, And go from me leaving no trace behind, Like fragrance borne on the hush of the wind. but in the instant the airs remain I know the laughter and the pain Of times that will not come again. I try to catch at many a tune Like petals of light fallen from the moon, Broken and bright on a dark lagoon. But they float away–for who can hold Youth, or perfume or the moon’s gold?

about

I combined Poetry, Music and Sound Design on my newest project.
9 Poems of lyric poet Sara Teasdale  -
The music moves from atmospheric textures created by Jeremy Ylvisaker and JT Bates, to Bill Evans Style Piano Trio and Underscore.

"This album is both a primer into the poetry of the brilliant American lyric poet Sara Teasdale, and a soundscape. Vernon's delivery of the sultry and poignant lines is the perfect vibe for Yeager's sonic vision."
Kevin O'Connor, KBEM music director:
Mpls StarTribune January 29, 2021

I'll also be sharing this project on i-tunes in March.

Sara Teasdale [1884-1933] was an American lyric poet. Some of her work anticipated modern feminist verse and the intimate, autobiographical style known as confessional poetry. A large number of Teasdale's poems deal with love and death. Many of the speakers in her lyrics are women who face the death or desertion of a loved one. They also face the fact of their own mortality with disillusionment, but not as cynics. Teasdale associated moral and spiritual beauty with the harmonies of the natural world.
